Hi! My name is Deirdre Ryan.
For the last 20 years I have, in various positions, been involved in
engaging, supporting, motivating, advocating and reaching out to people who in some way were having difficulties with some areas in their lives.
I have a natural empathy and connection with people. I believe we all have huge potential to shape positive identities. I have the conviction that through support, encouragement and education, people have the power to make behavioural choices that effectively satisfy their needs and have the capabilities to turn their situation around.
Part of this connection involves the ability to talk and listen, to build good relationships and earn trust and respect. Just as important is to convey hope and to empower people to help them realise a sense of optimism about their future. None of this would be possible without a genuine non-judgemental attitude, patience and resilience, tact and sensitivity, conflict resolution, negotiation skills and a sense of humour.
I have a Degree in Social Care Work and BA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have a specialised Cert. in Child and Adolescent Counselling and Psychotherapy and am presently studying for a Masters in Child and Adolescent Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also a Trained Yoga Teacher and a Trained Childrens Yoga Teacher. I am a fully accredited member with the IACP- Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
