- Are you looking for Counselling for a teenager?
Moving from a child to a teenager can be a very confronting time for both the adolescent and their parents. They face an array of physical, emotional and psychological milestones – growing up can be tricky!! Many adolescences manage to navigate the teenage years with very little problems but some experience difficulties during this time that they struggle to cope with. I am finding that more and more teenagers both male and female are becoming overwhelmed by the challenges they face.
Tipperary Counselling Service offers specialist Adolescent Counselling for many issues including:
- academic difficulties
- anger management
- anxiety
- behavioural concerns
- body image issues
- bullying (online and at school)
- depression
- drug and alcohol concerns
- eating disorders
- family conflict
- grief and loss
- helplessness and feeling overwhelmed
- interpersonal conflict
- relationship issues
- self-esteem issues
- sexuality
- sleep issues
- social isolation and feeling alone
- stress
As with younger children I use a variety of therapeutic mediums that can help a young person express themselves including art, clay, sand. These can be used along with talk therapy to help your son or daughter to make sense of themselves, their behaviours and interactions with others during this critical time of development.
Sometimes teenagers find it difficult to talk to their parents and this is why counselling can be an integral part of their journey. I offer a respectful, safe, honest and confidential space for the young person. I meet them at their developmental level, helping them explore their feelings, emotions and behaviours and implementing effective strategies to help them cope with the challenges of growing up and finding their place within their family, their social circles, and society at large.
Counselling can sometimes be scary and difficult at times but its worth the effort and at the end of your counselling journey hopefully you will start to feel that you are no longer alone and that life can be very fulfilling and rewarding.
I have a Degree in Social Care Work and BA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have a specialised Cert. in Child and Adolescent Counselling and Psychotherapy and am presently studying for a Masters in Child and Adolescent Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also a Trained Yoga Teacher and a Trained Childrens Yoga Teacher. I am a fully accredited member with the IACP- Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
